Self-Assessment

Throughout this semester I’ve acknowledged my writing skills by exploring various stages of the writing process for writing different types of projects in this class. I’ve also compared my writing with one of my close friends Jacob. Every project we did, we actually worked on them together. We looked over each other’s project and compared what should be fixed and how should the project be done. Comparing Jacob’s project to the one’s I did it seemed like he had a more well organized project than mines. Analyzing others in class during class discussion I’ve seen some students like Carlos, Max who would’ve participated a lot in Class discussions, following them I’ve also got the confidence in myself to speak up and participate in some of the days by sharing my thoughts on the lectures. This helped to gain confidence that in engineering classes I can share my thoughts with my professors of what I think  my opinion is. It also will help me in the future to build social skills with people and it can definitely help me during group presentations.

First of all, I have done all the work in my own way for this class. I haven’t really copied other’s ideas and duplicated them in my own way. I have worked with my Friend for ideas and the way to do an assignment, but I have never copied their work and stole ideas from theirs. I honed myself to express ideas more effectively by trying to do my own research and self writing on the projects. By doing this I have become more aware of my strengths and areas of improvement, this helped to inform decisions about my own writing goal. There are some things I achieved from this course. One of them is the writing goal is not to write just to finish up the work but to follow the instruction and give a meaning behind what we wrote to the professor. This is something that I didn’t follow at the starting of the semester, because at the start of the semester I only wrote summaries and put down my thoughts rather than following the writing criteria. But later on as our professor mentioned she isn’t looking for a summary, She is looking for the purpose and how to we can write it in a proper way. So moving forward I didn’t hesitate to write things on my own instead I followed the right writing protocols and used them for my later assignments and managed to get decent grades.

This course encouraged collaborative writing and emphasized the social aspects of the writing process.  Working with peers in group projects and participating in peer sessions allowed me to receive valuable insights and different perspectives. Collaborative writing improved my ability to incorporate feedback, considered alternative viewpoints, and create a final product. It took us a while to do that, because at first we couldn’t come up with any ideas. Furthermore I have developed a great appreciation for the expectations associated with specific writing contexts. It enables me to produce more effective writing when I’m assigned to do disciplinary work. Engaging in collaborative writing has been significant for me as it helped me develop my writing skills. Throughout the semester I had the opportunity to work with my Friend and group members. These collaborative experiences have been useful for me in shaping my understanding of the writing process and expanding my experience.

As I got to the last part of the semester of this course, I’ve had many ups and downs. First, some of the downs I had with this course was getting the work done on time and cramping up at the last minute to finish up some of my work. I also struggled a lot with doing my research for some of the projects. But I got over it. Some of the Ups I had with this semester was making new friends in class, getting to know some important details about collaborating with people, how to write emails and how to take care of yourself as young adults. One thing I learned from my professor is that nobody is going to look after us. We have to do our own thing and if we fall behind it’s our responsibility to pick it up because the real world is hard and everything doesn’t come right away time flies by. This is an important lesson for me and I’m really glad to take this course for the final time.
